Fraxel Laser

Fraxel Dual laser for non-ablative skin resurfacing

The Fraxel Dual laser system utilizes two distinct infrared wavelengths to treat the skin. This dual-wavelength approach allows the laser to target both deeper skin layers and the superficial epidermis.

Key scientific points:

  1. Wavelength:
    • Erbium (Er:fiber) Laser with 1550 nm wavelength.
    • Thulium (Tm:fiber) Laser with 1927 nm wavelength.
  2. Mechanism: This non-ablative laser combination is absorbed by water in different layers of the skin. The depth and intensity of the laser can be precisely adjusted.
  3. Biological effects: The 1550 nm wavelength is absorbed by water in the deeper tissue, promoting collagen remodeling and addressing issues like wrinkles, scars, and non-melanoma skin cancer. The 1927 nm wavelength focuses on the more superficial layers, effectively treating pigmentation and sun damage.
  4. Technology: Fractional non-ablative resurfacing creates microscopic zones of coagulation in the skin. The surrounding skin remains intact to speed up healing and reduce downtime.

Carbon dioxide (CO₂) laser for ablative skin resurfacing

CO₂ laser is strongly absorbed by water in skin tissue. This energy creates controlled micro-damage through ablation (removal of the outer skin layers) and coagulation (heating deeper layers), stimulating a wound-healing response. The process triggers collagen contraction and remodeling, resulting in new collagen formation, skin tightening, and smoother, rejuvenated skin over time.

Key scientific points:

  1. Wavelength: 10,600 nm (infrared), absorbed by water-rich tissues.
  2. Mechanism: Ablative resurfacing technology that removes the outer layers of the skin (epidermis). Coagulation of the dermis, mainly by vaporizing water in skin cells.
  3. Biological effects: Stimulate the growth of new, healthier skin to improve tone and texture. Remodeling and production of new collagen leading to skin tightening.
  4. Technology: Fractional ablative resurfacing creates only microscopic zones of ablation, leaving surrounding skin intact to reduce downtime and side effects associated with traditional ablative resurfacing.

Excel V+ Laser for broken blood vessels and rosacea

The Excel V+ laser is an advanced laser delivering energy at two precise wavelengths. This laser targets vascular lesions such as telangiectasia (broken blood vessels), red scars, rosacea, varicosities, and sun damage among others.

Key scientific points:

  1. Wavelength:
    • Potassium Titanyl Phosphate (KTP) laser with 532 nm wavelength.
    • Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Nd: YAG) laser with 1064 nm wavelength.
  2. Mechanism:
    • The 532 nm wavelength is absorbed by hemoglobin, making it ideal for targeting blood vessels close to the skin surface. The 1064 nm wavelength penetrates deeper into the skin and targets larger and deeper blood vessels, as well as conditions like varicosities and venous lakes.
  3. Biological effects:
    • Laser energy specifically heats and coagulates the blood vessels without impacting the surrounding tissue. The damaged blood vessels are reabsorbed by the body, reducing redness and improving skin appearance and difficult to treat, chronic, conditions like rosacea.
  4. Technology:
    • 532 nm and 1064 nm Laser Genesis technologies are quick, effective, comfortable treatments that can improve skin tone, redness, rosacea, and perioral dermatitis. Laser genesis has almost no down time.
    • The excelV+ unique advanced continuous contact cooling technology cools the skin before, during, and after each laser pulse to minimize discomfort and protect the surrounding tissue from excessive heat.

Aviclear Laser for the treatment of Acne and oily skin

AviClear is the first FDA-approved laser for the treatment of acne. This innovative approach helps minimize acne breakouts and oily skin without the need for medications. The laser is safe on all skin types and has no down time. This laser is not associated with side effects of traditional acne medications such as dryness.

Key scientific points:

  1. Wavelength: Indium Phosphide (InP) diode laser with 1726 nm wavelength.
  2. Mechanism: Selectively targets and downregulates sebaceous gland (oil gland) activity by heating these glands. This laser reduces excessive sebum (oil) production in the skin to address the root cause of acne without the need for medications.
  3. Biological effects: Decreases sebum production and oiliness of the skin leading to fewer breakouts. Improves skin clarity and reduces the frequency and severity of future acne lesions and scars.
  4. Technology: The procedure is supported by AviCool™ contact cooling, which ensures patient comfort by protecting the skin during treatment. This cutting-edge technology is unique as it significantly decreases the intense pain associated with the 1726 nm laser.

PicoSure Pro Laser for pigment and tattoo removal

PicoSure laser is the first FDA-approved Picosecond laser technology. This non-invasive laser system is designed for pigment reduction (sun spots, age spots, melasma), and tattoo removal. The laser is capable of overall skin rejuvenation and improving scars and aging using a unique photomechanical effect. It leverages ultra-short picosecond pulses for precise, efficient results with minimal downtime and discomfort.

Key scientific points:

  1. Wavelength:
    • Alexandrite laser with 755 nm Wavelength. The gold standard wavelength for targeting sunspots and pigment in the skin. This wavelength is highly effective for black, blue, and green tattoo inks.
    • Potassium Titanyl Phosphate (KTP) laser with 532 nm wavelength. Expands treatment to red, orange, and yellow pigments.
  2. Mechanism:
    • Delivers energy in picosecond pulse durations. A picosecond is one trillionth of a second.
    • Uses a photomechanical effect (PressureWave™) to shatter pigment particles, which are then removed by the body's immune system.
  3. Biological effects:
    • Pigment fragmentation: Breaks down sunspots, melasma, and tattoo ink for natural clearance.
    • Collagen and elastin stimulation: Promotes skin healing, smooths fine lines, diminishes acne scars, and improves skin texture.
    • Minimal downtime: Most patients experience only mild redness subsiding in hours.
  4. Technology: Platinum Focus™ Technology is a high precision diffractive lens array that promotes skin healing, smooths fine lines, diminishes acne scars, reduces pigment, and improves skin texture.
